Our results suggest that invasive MV should not be systematically denied to these patients but discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Methods: We prospectively evaluated in patients requiring more than 7 days of invasive MV the incidence and characteristics of clinical manifestations related to persistent SD.

High-oxygen requirements were needed in 39% of patients, but only 1 pt was admitted for invasive MV and was discharged 42 days after admission.
