Objectives: To determine whether epigenetic markers predict dimensional ratings of depression in maltreated children.

Maltreated children with a genotype conferring high levels of MAOA expression were less likely to develop antisocial problems.

Conclusions: Although replication is required, this study suggests that epigenetic mechanisms may be associated with risk for health problems later in life in maltreated children.
