Callimachus wrote the following couplet as an epitaph on the celebrated misanthrope:

A misanthrope who's given up on the world and everything in it?

He cultivated few people, in fact, was considered somewhat of a misanthrope.

All Hans knows about him is that he's a misanthrope and bull-headed.

Such examples of selfish meanness often repeated will render me a misanthrope.

He seems to have become a misanthrope, and a fatalist like myself.

So, too, has the misanthrope, groaning at any severity shown towards him.

But how is it that you alone, Antisthenes, you misanthrope, love nobody?
