Background: Various multidisciplinary approaches are taken in the treatment of superior sulcus tumors.

Recently, multidisciplinary treatments that include induction chemoradiation followed by surgery for superior sulcus non-small cell lung cancers have been reported with favorable results.

Patients and methods: Between 1986 and 2003, 64 patients with non-small cell carcinoma of the superior sulcus were managed in our department.

Methods: Between 1986 and 2000, 56 patients (43 men, 13 women) with superior sulcus tumor and histology of non-small-cell lung cancer underwent surgical resection.

Objective: Superior sulcus tumors with involvement of the spine have historically been considered unresectable.
