The largest denomination it came in was the 500-cruzeiro note.

When writer was first there, in 1976, the unit of currency, the cruzeiro, fetched 11.3 to the dollar.

In 1984 the rate of exchange was 1800 to the dollar and new bills of larger denominations had been created, including a 5000-cruzeiro note.
