The diagnosis is infantile onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome, referred to generally as MDDS.

Conclusions: Using leukocyte gene expression profiles, we could differentiate MDDs from Controls with adequate sensitivity and specificity.

A subsequent replication study involved 20 MDDs and 18 Controls.
