The study is part of an ongoing national radon measurement programme being carried out by the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.

Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan is scheduled to open the annual " national radon forum" in Dublin this morning.

This is the highest number identified in any period since the national radon measurement programme began, according to the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland (RPII).

The call coincides with the inaugural meeting of Irish National Radon Forum.
