Wooden blocks with flags were being set out along the oval of a 400-metre speed-skating course.

The head of Russia's speed-skating body Alexei Kravtsov said it should be down to the athletes themselves.

The race was the first speed-skating event at the Oval in which no Dutch skaters finished on the podium.
