Divide the following words into their syllables, and mark the accented syllable of each:

An accented syllable is followed by one or two unaccented.

A clean, correct formation should be made by slightly holding, and completing the accented syllable.

Then one of their number repeated the following rhyme, tapping a foot with each accented syllable.

The fault in such forms is more easily avoided by throwing a sharp accent on the accented syllable, letting the other syllables fall easily out.

So far as emphasis is concerned, you may consider the average sentence as just one big word, with the important word as the accented syllable.
