This seems to me to make the whole difference between a true and a false asceticism.

A false asceticism, gathering inspiration from pagan philosophy, was rapidly spreading among Christians even at that early day.

We further note that there is no trace of false asceticism or of gnostic contempt for the body in its designation as 'of our humiliation.'
