A clinical vignette is presented to illustrate our practice.

We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional clinical vignette-based survey that we sent via email to hospital practitioners involved in perioperative management of kidney transplant patients (KTR).

Interventions: Intervention group: a narrated, educational presentation by computer followed by the clinical vignettes.

Outcome measured: Agreement with guideline statements, and decision to order screening test in 6 clinical vignettes.

Control group: Received no educational intervention and completed the clinical vignettes-intended to mirror current clinician practice.

Design: Cross-sectional mailed survey with clinical vignettes.

Questions covered the "Champlin criteria," as well as operational definitions used in registry studies, exemplified in clinical vignettes.

Each physician was shown 3 clinical vignettes representing community-based cohort participants randomly selected from 8 total vignettes.

Those surveys included six clinical vignettes describing hypothetical patients of different ages - from 40 to 75 - and genders.
